A femoral hernia is one of the less common but clinically more concerning types of anterior abdominal wall hernias. Unlike many other types of abdominal hernias, it is more often associated with a risk of strangulation, so once the diagnosis is confirmed, the question of surgical treatment is usually considered without prolonged delay.
The goal of surgery is not only to eliminate the protrusion, but also to prevent dangerous consequences that in femoral hernia can develop faster than in other types of hernias.
